Personalized Human-Centric Context-Aware Systems(PHC-ICAS 2012)

Abstract

The concept of personalization has gained traction driven largely by the demands of computer-mediated collaboration implemented in distributed wireless and mobile systems. Personalisation has historically focused on the person; however, in recent times there is a recognition that personalization extends to entities, artifacts, and devices in mobile systems. Collaboration(s) cover many functions including: (1) resource distribution, (2) on-line collaborations, and (3) P2P (individual and group optimization) activities and can be classified under the general heading of Personalized Service Provision (PSP). Personalisation has historically focused on the person; however, in recent times there is a recognition that personalization extends to entities, artifacts, and devices in mobile systems. User and device profiling (such a profile is termed a context) forms a central function in realizing effective PSP while accommodating the related issue of constraint satisfaction. Awareness is the ability to be smart in interpreting feelings and perceptions. In Contextual Computing, a context definition should include contextual information to enable systems to effectively and precisely understand users and their situated role (a situated role describing the current situation and environment individual users experience during their interaction with the system) while reacting dynamically to the users feelings and perceptions. Due to the attachment/embedment/blending as well as emerging intelligent systems, ordinary things surrounding us are capable of computing and communicating, connecting and/or being connected to each other, and behaving and acting rationally with some smartness or intelligence. Intelligent Context-aware systems can also provide active and reliable services for individuals or communities in the “intelligent” or “smart” hyper world. The ultimate goal is to build smart personalized context-aware systems and aware-based applications in theoretical and practical developments.
This workshop provides a forum for engineers, researchers, and scientists to exchange the latest results of Personalized Human Centric Intelligent Context-Aware Systems.

Human-centric Security Management and Service in Smart Space(HSMSS 2012)

Abstract

ICT (Information Communication Technology) paradigms are standing on the new internet era, ‘Internet of Things’, which is going to rapidly evolve to the world of Intelligent All-Things. In other word, it means the realization of ‘Ubiquitous Me’. The concept of UC (Ubiquitous Computing) Environment would create the environment where real world myriad things and intelligent devices are connected via wire/wireless networks. As the UC environment is approaching, this phenomenon will pose an important challenge in the perspective of information security. In this environment, the information could be collected and misused in various ways, due to connection between virtual and physical space, regardless of time and physical limitation. To guarantee confidentiality, integrity and availability of information in this environment, the existing security system would possess some limitations. Considering the characteristics of recent survey incidents such as utilizing the state of art technology, information leakage takes place via various channels, including social engineering. In this vein, it is time to change paradigms, which is focused on human behavioral aspects of security system. So Intelligent Security System should be developed. The concept of Intelligent Information Security System is to upgrade the existing information security system by considering various elements of our daily life including human behavior, characteristics of organization or nation, changes in modern society, and integrated information security management (including physical security, technical security, and managerial security). The aim of this special issue is to analyze the current status and limitation of Intelligent Information Security System and its application with researchers and practitioners through inter-disciplinary studies.

Social Knowledge Discovery and Management(SKDM 2012)

Abstract

With the popularity of social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Answer, etc.), some sort of on-the-fly experience is learned and obtained by daily users. This type of experience can, in addition, be recognized as a particular way to cultivate domain knowledge. One typical instance is solution-finding. People rather search for the web (i.e., social environment) to see if someone who meets same, or similar, issues that he/she is dealing with and comes up with the solutions rather than find one in a traditional way. This not only reveals that the problems are about to be solved but the process that knowledge is discovered based upon the experiences from other publics. That is being said that the paradigms, such as social computing and multimedia networking, have changed the behaviors of human beings. Knowledge discovery is the process of automatic extraction of interesting and useful knowledge from very large data, whereas knowledge management consists of a range of strategies and practices to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable the adoption of novel insights and experiences for decision making. Issues regarding knowledge discovery and management become critical needs to be investigated. Various considerations should be carefully identified from both theoretical and practical perspectives to ensure the successful incorporation of these technologies. This workshop aims at providing a forum to discuss problems, current studies, and solutions on how the knowledge is discovered and managed in a socialized environment to facilitate human-centric support. Researchers are encouraged to share achievements, experiments, and ideas with international participants, and furthermore, look forward to map out the research directions and collaboration in the future. Participants, around 20 to 30, are expected to join the event during the period of main conference.

Ubiquitous Interaction System (UIS 2012)

Abstract

UIS 2012 deals with the latest trends on interaction decision support systems in the ubiquitous computing contexts. Interaction is necessary for all kinds of mobile devices. Despite the fact that cutting-edge mobile devices like smartphones are prevailing, various forms of interactions still wait to be investigated and discussed in the research community. In this sense, this session is dedicated to the purpose of analyzing ubiquitous interactions and presenting their practical implications. UIS 2012 accepts all the papers related to discussing interactions between devices and users. Especially, we welcome those papers which are focused on presenting empirical results, sophisticated research models based on previous studies, system design, and intelligent techniques. Smartphones applications will be appealing.

Personalized Service over Cloud (PSoC 2012)

Abstract

Cloud computing has been regarded as the most potential technology, since 1) it is applicable to massive storage as well as calculation; 2) its payment mode is pay-as-you-go, the users only need to pay for actually used resources; 3) it is a computing mode in providing services according to requirements, the required resources may not be allocated beforehand; 4) it is a service-oriented architecture, the service scale can be set and provided dynamically according to requirements. Overall, it can be used to realize different kinds of innovative application. Accordingly, many researchers have noticed that cloud computing is a promising paradigm driving the innovative services. Nowadays, Personalized Service over Cloud is one of important subjects. Personalized Service refers to any service occurring on behalf of individuals. In a sense, Personalized Service emphasizes that systems automatically collect and analyze users’ behaviors to predict users’ intent in order to provide services tailored to individual interests and styles. This implies that Personalized Services can be leveraged by using cloud computing, because it can store more the behaviors of users and provide more timely the analysis of behaviors. As a result, users can enjoy the convenience of Personalized Service over Cloud. Accordingly, this workshop will hold a forum including the paper presentations and interactive sessions for collecting various perspectives about Personalized Service over Cloud.
